Bangladesh

In 2010, we opened our first regional office in Bangladesh, enabling us to step up our drive for better healthcare for older people.

Always working closely with local partners, we campaign to increase the Old Age Allowance - and to ensure everyone eligible for the award is getting it.

The difference we made in 2009-10

  • In 2009, we helped celebrate the International Day of Older People alongside government officials and high-profile public figures.
  • We have helped set up 287 new older people's associations - vital support networks for their members.
  • We have trained more than 800 older people and other volunteers to prepare for disasters - remembering older people's specific needs in their plans.

What next?

  • With our partners, we will fight for a rise in the Old Age Allowance - and for more people to get it.
  • We, together with our partners, will interview older people's associations to monitor how many members are getting allowances and benefits.
  • We will then extend this monitoring work into urban areas too.
