Moldova

Working in Moldova since 2000, we collaborate closely with our partner Second Breath, among others, to:
- improve policies affecting older people at local, national and international levels
- build a network of hundreds of volunteers to help older people in need
- empower older Moldovans to take part in local government and decision making.
The difference we made in 2009-10
- We helped 500 households to improve their inter-generational relationships by promoting the sharing of traditional knowledge, particularly traditional handicrafts.
- 900 more multi-generational households now enjoy increased access to healthcare, social pensions and transport benefits.
- We helped more than 2,800 older people sort out tax and healthcare issues via community projects led by older people themselves.
- We distributed 1,400 guides on older people's rights to relevant organisations, volunteers and older people themselves.
What next?
- We will go on supporting multigenerational households - helping the older people left behind when sons and daughters migrate to work abroad.
- We willl work to end the discrimination and abuse faced by older people by promoting victims' rights among civil society groups.
- We will raise awareness of the health issues that older people face and work to reduce their risks of getting ill.
