People 60+ are the fastest growing demographic group yet their needs are rarely considered in health and humanitarian initiatives.

Older people are disproportionately affected by natural disasters. 65% of people who perished during the 2011 Japanese tsunami were 60+ as were 29% of deaths from the Nepal earthquake and 70% of deaths from Hurricane Katrina in 2005.

And in everyday life, older people's challenges abound. Those who have been poor their whole lives often find that poverty deepens in older age. Globally, more than half of people 60+ do not have a secure income and 60% of older people cannot access healthcare because of the costs.

More older people die of malnutrition and respiratory diseases than any other age group, including children under 15.
