The Marathon

The Berlin Marathon is one of the largest races in the world. With over 40,000 runners participating each year, individual tickets for the 2015 race were sold out in 24 hours! While starting from humble beginnings back in October 1974, the race has grown in popularity and prestige and now draws running celebrities such as Paul Tergat. As the race became more popular, the Berlin Marathon began working with charity partners to help raise awareness and funds for various causes around the world.

Why Help?

The Berlin Marathon offers a chance to join an international community supporting older people around the globe. Runners' contributions will help programs such as our recent work in Nepal where we were the first organization on the ground after the earthquake to seek out people over sixty - many of whom could not make their way to the emergency relief stations. As with most humanitarian emergencies, older people were disproportionately affected and left out of relief efforts. Our assistance ensured they had food, shelter and access to medical help when no one else was concerned about their needs. Your contributions will help improve the lives of older people around the world - from farmers in Bolivia and grandmother caregivers in Kenya to community health care workers in Tanzania and older citizen activists in Vietnam!
