If you and your family were hungry, what would you do?

What if you knew what to do for your family's hunger, but didn't have resources to do anything about it? Older people in the isolated high plains of Bolivia know what to do - farming has been a way of life for centuries. But they do not have the resources to combat social change, the migration of young adults to cities, and increasingly harsh climate conditions which have left communities bereft of their traditional systems of support.
HelpAge is listening to their voices and expertise, empowering them to care for themselves and their families. For this project, older people will identify suitable locations for sustainable food-growing around their villages, and their agricultural knowledge will then be included in future local governmental planning. HelpAge supplies irrigation equipment, seeds for nutritious foods, and training. Together, we can take an intergenerational approach to empowering communities to combat hunger.
How can you help? Visit our project on the Global Giving website to create sustained change in the lives of rural Bolivian farmers and their families:
